The idea of “work life balance” seems to be falling out of fashion. As a goal, as a noun, as a static state, it’s unrealistic and unachievable. But think about the last time you were actively balancing.
Maybe you were a kid standing on one foot or making your way across the top of a low wall. Maybe more recently you were trying to hold a yoga pose or do something challenging in CrossFit. You wobbled. You were surprised by how hard it was. Concentrating really hard on how to balance better just made you fall over. You had to tune out everything in the background. You had to drop your focus down your center, without consciously thinking about it at all. Still you might have trembled a little bit from the effort. And once you consciously realized you had it, and tried to enjoy it, you lost your balance and had to start over.
That sounds like life to me.
