the sound of a bubble, popping

Mary Meeker’s 2018 deck is out, and one statistic jumped out at me: 0% shipment growth of new smartphones in 2017.

If there is a bubble, it floats on smartphone adoption.

As you click through the slides, just notice how many of the screenshots appear as an elongated vertical rectangle “smartphone” screen rather than a boxier “computer” screen.

The on-demand jobs featured on slides 164 through 175?  Worker autonomy through smartphones.

Those consumer-mirroring enterprise messaging and data storage apps seen in slides 263 through 277?  Useful because of smartphones.

With 0% shipment growth we’re quickly approaching a static pool of “new” customers, users, and workers.  And then how will tech companies with smartphone-dependent products continue to grow?
